Model Multidisciplinary Climate Curriculum

This bill requires the commissioner of education to develop a model for climate change curriculum which will be implemented into the science, social studies, english, history, mathematics, and health classes in all public elementary and secondary schools. This model will include but is not limited to topics of air quality, climate change, energy, environmental justice, sustainability, fishing and wildlife, forestry, oceans, pollution prevention, public health, water, and toxics. The commissioner of education will make the model curriculum available to the public, and provide assistance for schools to incorporate it into their instruction. The commissioner will also update the curriculum every four years in order for it to reflect the most current scientific, social, and technological knowledge. School authorities are responsible for providing the essential facilities, time, and place for the instruction and will also provide learning aids and curriculum resource materials to ensure effective teaching methods.
